In Michigan, your license can be suspended for many different reasons. The Michigan Legislature has taken the power to sanction your driving privileges away from judges and placed it in the hands of an administrative, bureaucratic agency; the Secretary of State.
You will most commonly need to have a Driver Assessment and Appeal Division (DAAD, formerly DLAD) Hearing if you are considered a habitual offender of Michigan's Drunk Driving Laws. This means that you have had two drunk driving convictions within 7 years, or three drunk driving convictions within 10 years.
You are eligible to file your appeal and request for a hearing six weeks prior to the expiration of the denial or revocation of you license. You will need a substance abuse evaluation, and several other supporting documents. If you do lose your DAAD appeal, you may be able to petition the Circuit Court in your county to overturn that decision.
